Day 25: Vanderpool to Fredericksburg (78 miles) March 7

Today was a great day for riding. Headwinds were still present but only at 7-10 mph. Beautiful scenery and more rolling hills.

At mile 47.5 a flag was placed in the town of Kerrville to mark the halfway point of our tour. 🙌🏻👊🏻

Everyone rode at least 20 miles, and 8 of us completed the entire 78 miles. The last 8 miles were hard, the winds picked up, I was tired and had to deal with traffic. We finally reached our destination and my wingman fell in the parking lot at the hotel. 🤦‍♀️ Too many cars in a crowded parking lot, she hit her head on a parked car and fell. She’s fine! She is currently icing her knee and elbow. This is her second fall on this trip. She fell in Yuma, AZ, in a parking lot! Fortunately, tomorrow is a rest day.

Side note: Bicycle helmets have an expiration date! They should be replaced every 3-5 years depending on usage. You should always replace your helmet after an impact or damage.

Lucky for my friend, there is a nice bike shop in Fredericksburg where they sell helmets!

Our second SAG stop was at Hill Country Arts Foundation in Ingram, TX, home of Stonehenge II. It was quite the attraction when we were there. (Photo below)

We crossed the Guadalupe River several times today, I lost count. I need to check a map to see what that was about. 🤔 The water was clear and very green in color. We also passed some very impressive homes along the river.

Tomorrow is a rest day in Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg has a unique German heritage (founded by German immigrants) with wineries, shops, museums and restaurants. I’m looking forward to seeing it!

More uphill climbs. It might not look steep. It is!

Stonehenge II is a concrete sculpture in the Texas Hill Country, built in homage to the original Stonehenge monument. The first stone for the project was a piece of limestone left over from a building project.

Cowboy boots! 🤠 Don’t mess with Texas!

Half way there! 1,563 miles!
