Day 47: Palatka to St Augustine (33 miles) May 4

Updated: Jul 10, 2022

Such an emotional day. I did it!

My husband was waiting for me at Anastasia State Park where we all rode in together. And, to my genuine surprise, my two daughters, my brother and his significant other were waiting for me on the beach!😭😭😭😭 The flood gates opened!

I was also greeted by my PEO sisters from St Augustine. I was overwhelmed with emotion. I am forever grateful for all the support I received over the last 8 weeks.

This ride was life changing. These women are extraordinary. It was an honor and a privilege riding with them. I never felt alone and we always supported each other. Every hill, headwind and hurdle, we faced together. We were all different in many ways, but cohesive in the journey. All of the riders celebrated at a banquet at a local restaurant. Awards were given and we each had a chance to say our farewells. More tears. 😭😭😭

I’m proud to be a member of this exclusive club of cross country cyclists. There is none other like it. I’m now headed home to let this epic ride sink in.

My youngest daughter, Jenna, from Colorado, is riding home with me and staying for a few days. My oldest, Emily, took a midnight flight from BWI to JAX to see me ride in but needed to leave after the picnic. A very happy early Mother’s Day to me that I saw both my girls this week.

Thank you all for riding along with me (virtually)! I hope you enjoyed the journey as much as I did!

I’ll close with one last reminder. Please remember, whenever you see a cyclist on the road, be kind and considerate and share the road. 🙂 On behalf of every cyclist, I thank you!

From the mountains to the prairies

To the oceans white with foam

America, you are even more beautiful than I imagined. 🇺🇸🚴🏻‍♀️
